Watanabe Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Clinic
Associate Director Dr. Tomomi Watanabe
Watanabe Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Clinic is the only clinic in Nagano Prefecture where both a certified dermatologist by the Japanese Dermatological Association and a certified plastic surgeon by the Japan Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery are permanently stationed. For over 20 years, the clinic has been trusted as an essential part of the community.
Since 2022, the clinic has been offering Twendee X (product name: Oxycut) and Twendee Mtcontrol (product name: Mtcontrol), which have been used by many patients.
We spoke with Associate Director Dr. Tomomi Watanabe. She shared that not only herself but also her husband, Director Dr. Toshinari Watanabe, and her mother take Twendee Mtcontrol. In this article, we introduce the clinic’s features and how antioxidant supplements are being utilized in medical practice.
— Please tell us about your clinic.
Dr. Watanabe: Our clinic has been operating for 20 years in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture. I’m originally from Ueda, and since my husband is a plastic surgeon and I am a dermatologist, it was natural for us to establish a clinic that combines both specialties. Currently, we provide specialized care in both dermatology and plastic surgery, and for patients who require both, we coordinate seamlessly—for instance, a patient diagnosed in dermatology may be treated in plastic surgery if surgery is needed, and vice versa.
As aesthetic treatments are also available in plastic surgery, we operate as a comprehensive clinic that supports everything from skin diseases to cosmetic concerns.
Initially, we focused on insurance-covered treatments, but gradually we’ve incorporated private treatments as well.
There are few university or general hospitals in the region, and many patients seek specialized dermatological care. We treat a wide range of skin conditions, from mild to severe cases.
Many patients also visit us complaining of fatigue or decreased vitality. Among the elderly, we see many cases where poor physical health manifests on the skin, including outbreaks of shingles. Even after their skin conditions are treated, patients often seek help for concerns such as dark spots, wrinkles, or dullness. We also see patients with issues related to hair and nails, like female diffuse hair loss, for which no definitive treatment is available under insurance. Additionally, we treat patients whose skin reflects their mental state. We always strive to provide the best treatment tailored to each individual patient.
— Please tell us about your clinic’s treatment philosophy.
Dr. Watanabe: Of course, we provide treatment based on accurate diagnosis and established dermatological guidelines. However, we also consider individual skin types, characteristics of their conditions, mental state, home environment, and occupation. Based on these factors, we take a one-time-only approach to propose the most suitable treatment for each patient. While standard Western treatments often suffice, when I feel that a patient needs something more, I may combine herbal medicine or supplements. I always aim to explore options that could lead to better outcomes.
Honestly, I used to be skeptical about supplements. But learning about Twendee X, developed by Dr. Inubo, changed my perspective. We hardly handled supplements before, but after receiving documents and references from Dr. Inubo and studying them, we decided to start using them.
There are many known antioxidant ingredients like polyphenols and vitamin C. However, I learned it’s not just about taking these components—it’s crucial that they are properly formulated for absorption. Twendee X impressed me because it considers not only the ingredients but also their bioavailability.
— What prompted you to offer antioxidant supplements at your clinic?
Dr. Watanabe: It started when someone I knew was suffering from long COVID. I wanted to help them and began researching online, where I came across an article by Dr. Inubo. I contacted the email listed and received many documents and papers from him. After reading them, I was convinced of the product’s quality and wanted to share it with my patients as well.
— What kind of patients do you recommend it to?
Dr. Watanabe: Mainly to patients whose poor physical health manifests on the skin. For example, I often recommend it to patients with shingles, which is caused by lowered immunity. While treatment options have improved dramatically—what used to require hospitalization and IVs can now often be treated with oral medication—more patients have been suffering from severe shingles post-COVID due to significantly lowered immunity. Elderly patients are especially affected.
When recommending supplements, I often introduce the concept of oxidative stress. Since the term “oxidative stress” can be a bit technical, I sometimes use illustrated materials to explain it visually. Explaining its link to various diseases helps patients understand and accept the treatment more readily.
For long-time, trusting patients, I may simply say, “Why don’t you try this?”—and many are willing to give it a shot based on that alone.
Patients often report positive results like “I feel less tired” or “I feel more energetic.” One patient in their 70s said, “I can stay energetic no matter what,” and has continued taking the supplements regularly.
Watanabe Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Clinic continues to provide healthcare rooted in the local community while also exploring treatment options beyond standard Western medicine. Antioxidant supplements have been welcomed as a new possibility for addressing physical discomfort that appears on the skin.
