I began my cancer research in 1984, two years after graduating from medical school in 1982. Through my work in cancer research, I always aimed to contribute to the health and well-being of as many people as possible.

However, during my time as a professor in medical school, I found myself unable to conduct the type of research I truly wanted to pursue. Additionally, the research environment and support systems at the university were not sufficient. Faced with these challenges, I decided to shift my focus to a significant and impactful area of study—oxidative stress research.

Rather than continuing as a university professor until retirement, I chose to dedicate the remainder of my life to the research I was truly passionate about, research that could make a meaningful contribution to the health of many people. While my decision faced significant opposition from those around me, I was determined to follow this path.
